The Australian Medical Council (AMC) ensures that standards of education, training and assessment of the medical profession promote and protect the health of the Australian community. The AMC is the national accreditation authority for medicine. The AMC sets accreditation standards across all phases of the medical education continuum and accredits 23 Australian Universities for primary medical programs, 8 state-based intern training accreditation authorities, and 16 specialist colleges for specialist training programs.
