Pre-Assembly Tour

The WBA Organising committee along with the tour site supporters, S&W Seed Company, LongReach Plant Breeders and Australian Grain Technologies, invite you to register to attend the Pre-Assembly Tour on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 August 2022. See tour details and inclusions below.

Pre-Assembly Tour Itinerary - FULLY BOOKED

Saturday 27 August

 2pm departure from Tamworth Airport for the S & W wheat breeding station at Breeza 

Group Dinner in Narrabri (at guests expense)

Sunday 28 August 

7.30am departure from Narrabri for the AGT wheat breeding site at North Star followed by lunch at the North Star recreation reserve.

Afternoon includes the LongReach and InterGrain plot site finishing in Narrabri approx 6pm in time for a quick clean up before attending the welcome reception at Club Narrabri.

Thursday 1 September 

Return to Tamworth Airport. Depart Narrabri (The Crossing Theatre) at 7.00 am to arrive Tamworth Airport approx 9.00am. 

Registration fee: $150

Light refreshments and lunch on Sunday are included. Saturday Group Dinner and accommodation are at delegates own expense

Requirements: 

In the case of wet weather,  participants are encouraged to wear either work boots or gumboots.

Travel information:

The pre-conference tour is scheduled to depart Tamworth Airport at 2pm Sharp.

Qantas are currently offering two flights from Sydney to Tamworth on Saturday 27 August. QF2002 (8.55-10.00) and QF2014 (12.05-13.10). 

Link Airways has flights to Tamworth and Narrabri so please check their schedules for days and flight times.

S&W Breeza Site

S&W Breeza multi-crop research site:

  • This is one of S&W’s three primary field research sites in Australia and covers 50 hectares in the southern part of the Liverpool Plains
  • The site provides ideal conditions for breeding and selection of cereals and pulses in the winter cycle, grain and forage sorghum in the summer cycle and lucerne and pasture trials perennially.
  • CAIGE bread wheat, durum wheat, and barley trials will be viewed.



AGT North Star Site

The site features:

  • AGT’s largest Northern away site with approx. 9,000 plots
  • Bread wheat, durum and barley germplasm, including early/long and main maturities
  • Crown Rot research project trials
  • Bread wheat CAIGE trial
  • Historical trial showcasing old and latest northern germplasm



LongReach Site

About the site:

  • LongReach Plant Breeder’s largest site in Northern NSW 
  • Early and Main season trials from Stage 1 through to Stage 6 with nearly 12,000 total plots 
  • Hybrid wheat trials 
  • Genomic selection validation and Genetic Gain trials 
  • Pre-breeding collaboration trials, Root angle, LMA 
  • Demonstration strips showcasing LRPB’s current varieties for the region

InterGrain Site

The trial site features:

  • InterGrain’s long term wheat and barley advanced line trialling site
  • Northern NSW focused germplasm on display
  • Genomic selection training populations
  • New and up and coming variety demonstration
