7:30am - 8:30am | Experience the serene beauty of Adelaide’s riverbank, as we embark on a refreshing morning walk around the picturesque River Torrens/Karrawirra Parri. Our journey will include the iconic footbridge and the charming riverbank in front of the Adelaide Convention Centre (ACC). We will walk for approximately 30 minutes, and we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. The walk is generally on closed paths. Here’s our schedule for the morning: 7:30 AM: Gather at the ACC, ready to embrace the day. 7:40 AM: We set off from the ACC, immersing ourselves in the tranquil surroundings. 8:15 AM: We return to the ACC, invigorated and ready to start the day at 8:30 AM. 7:30am - 8:30am | Join us for a mindful walk around the beautiful Adelaide Botanic Gardens right in the Adelaide CBD. The Adelaide Botanic Garden opened in 1857 and is described as "both a tranquil oasis and vibrant cultural precinct" (Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium, 2024). We will walk for approximately 45 minutes, and we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. The walk is generally on closed paths. Here’s our schedule for the morning: 7:00AM: Participants make their own way to the Adelaide Botanic Gardens* 7:30 AM: We will meet at the North Terrace entrance to the Adelaide Botanic Gardens (just North of the intersection of North Terrace and East Terrace) 7:40 AM: We will walk throughout the gardens, taking in the peaceful gardens and unique architecture 8:25 AM: Walk will conclude back at the North Terrace entrance. Participants will then make their way back to the ACC*, refreshed and ready to start the day at 9:00 AM. Join us for this restorative morning walk before the final day of ANZAPHE 2024. *Getting to and from the Botanic Gardens – A free tram service is available between the ACC (Adelaide Railway Station stop) and the Adelaide Botanic Gardens (Botanic Gardens stop). Explore a little more of Adelaide at your own pace with self-guided walks. There are a number of short routes that take you to some of the city’s prominent landmarks, all within a short distance from the Adelaide Convention Centre. Great for any early risers looking for a refreshing start to the day, or those seeking a peaceful stroll between sessions.
Elder Park Rotunda: Just 5-minutes from the ACC, Elder Park and the historic Rotunda sit adjacent to the riverbank, with views of the River Torrens/Karrawirra Parri and the Adelaide Oval. From riverbank ACC entrance, follow the path down to the river’s edge, and walk east along the waterfront until you reach the rotunda. Rundle Mall: A short 10-minute walk from the ACC, visit the heart of Adelaide’s shopping precinct, including the iconic Mall’s Balls and the Rundle Mall Pigs. From the North Terrace ACC entrance, walk east along North Terrace, before turning south onto King William St, which will then intersect with Rundle Mall. (https://www.rundlemall.com/)
North Terrace: Heading east down North Terrace will allow you to take in a variety of Adelaide’s key buildings, including the Railway Station, Parliament House, Government House, the National War Memorial (South Australia), State Library of South Australia and the South Australian Museum, just to name a few!
