Prof. Pek-Lan Khong

Clinical Professor of Radiology, Head Department of Diagnostic Radiology, The University of Hong Kong

Prof. Pek-Lan Khong is Clinical Professor of Radiology and the Head of Department of Diagnostic Radiology, The University of Hong Kong since 2008. She serves as Honorary Consultant Radiologist at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong, and Hong Kong Children’s Hospital. She was also Chief-of-Service of the Department of Medical Imaging, The University of Hong Kong- Shenzhen Hospital, PRC, between 2012-2017 from the founding of the hospital.

Prof. Khong received her medical degree from The National University of Singapore, and subsequently trained in Radiology obtaining her specialist degrees in Hong Kong (FHKCR, FHKAM) and the United Kingdom (FRCR), and her post-graduate Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) from The University of Hong Kong.

Prof. Khong’s research focus is in pediatric neuroradiology, in particular, the pediatric applications of diffusion-weighted and diffusion-tensor MR imaging, and in oncological imaging, with a focus on hybrid-PET imaging. She established the clinical and research molecular imaging facilities in the Department, which includes a cyclotron and radiopharmacy lab and pre-clinical translational research lab. Published works include more than 200 original articles in international peer-review journals on topics of pediatric neuroradiology, hybrid-PET imaging in oncology, and radiological protection in Medicine. She sits on the review board of multiple national grant funding bodies and lectures regionally and internationally.

Prof. Khong is a Fellow of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) and Fellow of the International Cancer Imaging Society (ICIS). She is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the ISMRM, an Executive Board member of the International Society of Strategic Studies in Radiology (IS3R), and a member of the RSNA Regional Committee for China. From 2009-2017, Dr. Khong was elected to the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), committee on Protection in Medicine, and the co-corresponding author of ICRP Publication 121 on “Radiological Protection in Pediatric Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology”.
